Bright Future (JCH -- 4/91)
Where are my lonely poets
Dreaming?
Where are my dancing women?
My photographers?
Where are my students protesting?
Or my hearing-aid salesman?
Where am I? Or where are you?

Listen to the gentle rain.
Hear the soft silence
Calling your name:
         “Come with us.”
I am not alone.
The talk show host
The movie actress
The rock’n’roll star
And the comedian
Come dance with us.
Share a toast to our
         Bright Future.
I can be anything.
        Even vice-president.
