lament for a poem unwritten (jch -- 9/96)
it's words are dark metaphors, slick and oily,
cast a glance and dart away
return to the shadows of sadness,
infinity in a moment,
which must inevitably lead to madness:
leave with a girl from the north country
seek solace in her comfortable patience
bury the constant grimace
under a ton of smirks and knowing winks,
another well-scripted one-liner
to fool even yourself:
believe in the pain
and you will free yourself from it
don't ponder
and your answers will find you
