"Oh, you're from England? This ice cream van's from England too. Very good quality!"

It does amaze me how very English Cyprus actually seems to be, at least in the towns and more touristy areas where we go. Everybody speaks English. Road signs are in English as well as Cypriot Greek. They have all the English papers and magazines, fish'n'chip shops and McDonald's, even Woolworths. Naturally it has its perfectly valid historical explanations, but it does still seem a shame somehow.

The ice cream is really nice, but melts quickly in the sun.
