Tomb of the Kings is on the way between Coral Bay and Paphos. It's a good morning trip. Ian and I take the scooter, go on the main road along the coast and its banana plantations.

A couple of bus loads of German tourists arrive just before us. It takes us some time to get through the turnstiles.

The site is impressive, vast and dry and full of hidden spaces. We go down steps into rooms hollowed out in the rock - they range from basic to more elaborate. In one of the bigger spaces a set of pillars are holding the ceiling up.

The fleeting traces of footprints in the sand is a reminder that tourists come and go, but will always take some of the historical tombs with them. Feet wear down steps and hands touching pillars speed up the decay. Tourism is a form of erosion.
