Bubbenhall Annexe Action Group

The Bubbenhall Annexe Action Group (BAAG) has been setup to respond to the issues raised by Key Issue 1 for Action from the recent OFSTED report and the Consultation Document issued by the Governors of Provost Williams CofE Primary School, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry. UK

Last Updated: 18th June 1999

On January 29th 1999, the parents of children at Provost Williams Primary School received a consultation document outlining an action plan to resolve the issues raised by a recent OFSTED inspection. The document was developed by the Governors of the school and outlines two options to address OFSTED's main Key Issue for Action:

Option 1: Retaining Bubbenhall Annexe
Option 2: Closing Bubbenhall Annexe

Immediately after the issue of the Governors consultation document, the Bubbenhall Annexe Action Group, BAAG, was formed to prevent the annexe from being closed. Members of the group consisted of past, current and future parents.

Main points of issue raised by BAAG

  • There is no financial saving to the school by closing the annexe
  • Any savings the LEA may achieve by the closure of  the annexe is outweighed by the additional cost of transporting pupils.
  • There is no educational advantage in closing the annexe
  • Children will be moved out of a perfectly acceptable permanent building in to a temporary classroom.
  • Infants from the age of four will be forced to travel to school on a bus with possibly no adequate child restraints
  • Bubbenhall loses a vital focus within the village

  • The following 4 out of the 12 long term objectives set by the school will not be achieved.
  1. The inability to achieve single age classes for Key Stage 1, resulting in the potential loss of one Key Stage 1 teacher;
  2. Home/school links will be reduced.
  3. The school will no longer be providing well-maintained & suitable accommodation.
  4. The school will no longer be the preferred choice for Bubbenhall parents, threatening the long term security of Provost Williams Primary School.

OFSTED's Main Key Issue for Action:
Make more effective use of the financial resources and accommodation available to the school by rationalising them against its long-term strategic needs
