Bubbenhall Annexe Action Group

The Bubbenhall Annexe Action Group (BAAG) has been set up to respond to the issues raised by Key Issue 1 for Action from the OFSTED report and the recommendations proposed by the current Governing Body of Provost Williams Primary School.

Key Issue 1

Make more effective use of the financial resources and accommodation available to the school by rationalising them against its long term strategic needs.

The Consultation Process

The first stage of the consultation process is the issuing of the Consultation Document by the Governing Body. The second stage consists of three sessions where parents can discuss their views personally with members of the Governing Body. There was no mention that parents were restricted to only one session! The sessions are:

Saturday 6th February

Bill Lilly, Parent Governor/Chairman of Governors

Carolyn Reily, Foundation Governor

Monday 8th February

Steve Ingaglia, Parent Governor

Martin Brassington, County Council Representative

Tuesday 9th February

Frank Clowes, Parish Council Representative

Tonino Ciuffini, Parent Governor

The third stage of the consultation process is an open meeting in the school hall at Ryton on Wednesday 24th February where parents and members of the community are invited to attend.

The Governing Body aims to make its decision by the end of March for implementation possibly in September 1999.

Actions

It was proposed that Nigel Tuckey acts as co-ordinator for the Bubbenhall Annexe Action Group. A Bubbenhall Annexe Action Group e-mail address has been created which can be used for discussing issues and to request copies of documents; eg. OFSTED reports, Consultation documents, Action Plans and draft letters. For security reasons, full names and addresses must be supplied before any documentation is sent.

Due to the short time scale, the following immediate actions have been implemented.

    1. Any action to save the annexe from closure will only work if the Governing Body can be convinced that it is in the best interest of the school to keep the annexe open.
    2. The drawing up of key points to be used in the campaign. These points are attached.
    3. All parents attend at least one private meeting with the governors and highlight the key points.
    4. A Flash Newsletter to be published and circulated to all members of the community giving a brief account of the consultation document.
    5. An open meeting to be arranged for all members of the community on Thursday 11th February at 8:00pm in Bubbenhall Village Hall where full details of the consultation document will be presented along with the responses of the Action Group.
    6. Copies of lobbying letters to the Governors and Ofsted to be made available to all interested parties.
    7. Parents who initially responded to OFSTED and/or CfBT and have not received a satisfactory answer to their questions are to chase their responses and insist that their questions be answered. All letters to CfBT should from now on be copied to Joanna Guthrie at OFSTED:
    8. Joanna Guthrie, IQMD Team, The Office for Standards in Education, Alexandra House, 33 Kingsway, London. WC2B 6SE

    9. Parents and members of the community to attend the open session for final lobbying of the Governors. Lift sharing is recommended with non-parents to encourage a greater turn out and to reduce parking difficulties outside the school.
