I plan to keep going to school well into my twilight years. In the computer industry there will always be somthing new to learn or explore. If you want to remain an asset to your company you have to be on top of the technology. I have an Associate's Degree and I look forward to attaining my Bachelor's, Masters, and quite possibly a PhD. Most new programming languages are based on the same theory as the old ones, and networking structure really hasn't changed all that much in the past 20 years. I'm not saying it will be easy, but I believe I have an advantage and I would be a fool not to use it.
Computer Tech
I have attended Computer Tech. in Pittsburgh since August of 1999. During our nine terms of intensive instruction I have learned a lot more than I expected to coming into the school. First of all, I have been messing around with computers for the past 15 years or so. I had aquired quite an extensive knowledge of C++ and Visual Basic as well as knowledge of DOS, WINDOWS, and UNIX. I thought I knew everything there was about these subjects and they were all I would care to know. Computer Tech. surprised me though. I had learned a lot on my own, but I found thorough Computer Tech. that there is always more information out there. I learned many new things and gained even more knowledge about the subjects I had already had experience with.
University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg
I attended Pitt for two semesters. I did well and am still technically a student there. I haven't registered for classes since 1999 because I decided to get some more intensive training at Computer Tech before contiunuing at Pitt. Pitt offered Visual Basic and Visual C++, they really didn't have a lot of classes dealing with hardware or base programming languages. I wanted a degree that proved my extensive background was worth something. A degree form Pitt will prove to the world that I know C++ and Calculus...it doesn't say much about my ability to assemble and configure a PC or a network. So this was the reason I paused in the first part of my Pitt education to come to Computer Tech. I wanted more classes dealing with computers and technology. I will return to Pitt, or a similar University that accepts my credits, in the fall of 2001. I plan to have a good job at a good company by then. I can easily schedule my classes around work, I've been doing it for two years now.
