Welcome to The Afro-Centric Trade Route. This site was created for those individuals who enjoy Afro-Centric design in art, accessories and interior design. As the year 2000 nears their is a new awareness of things that are afro-centric for the home. From tables to posters afro-centric design is everywhere. Furniture from Africa arrive daily into small and large showroom. If you search the internet you will find all types of afro-centric art, furniture and accessories.
Although not main stream yet, you can find some very nice looks out there if you try. Well let me introduce my self I am Sam Carpenter owner, and designer
of some of the Afro-Centric pieces you will see here. I design for other interior designers, and design for my own clients homes, and apartments as well.
As an African American I grow up with Afro-Centric art in the home. but there
were not many if any interior designers designing around Afro-Centric furniture, and accessories but now that has changed, their are a few books on this subject one of which is the Spirit of African design by sharne Algotsson, and Denys Davis who are philadelphians like my self. Ok that enough of that
here are some of my Afro-Centric designs.

The Lamp on the right is one that I did for a client recently. This halogen lamp is made with a three headed unity craving, and mudcloth. The lamp stands about 6ft 3inchs ,and about 15inch around. Due the craving and mudcloth no two lamp will be the same. If you are the type of person who like something in your home that is Afro-Centric, and you can not find anywhere else. Your looking in the right place. Each piece is not only functional, but is also a piece of art. Until now it was hard to find Afro-Centric furniture, and accessioies to replace the traditional items you find in your home.
