George Mason Association for Public Interest Law (APIL)

What is APIL?
APIL is a student run organization that seeks to promote public interest law opportunities and awareness at George Mason University Law School.
What kind of activities does APIL sponsor?
Fellowships - Every summer APIL offers fellowships which provide monetary stipends to students working in public interest internships for organizations that cannot afford to pay them. These fellowships allow students to get excellent legal experience.

Spring Auction - Every Spring APIL hosts an auction to raise money for its fellowship program. The local business community, along with many faculty members generously donate items for APIL to auction off. The auction always gets a big crowd and is a lot of fun.

Speakers - APIL invites speakers from various public interest law organizations to visit the law school throughout the year. Speakers share their experiences with students about working in public interest fields such as Criminal Public Defense, Immigration, Low Income Housing, and Domestic Violence.

Volunteer Activities - APIL organizes volunteer activities at least twice a semester. These activities, which have included working with Habitat for Humanity, environmental clean-ups, and working at soup kitchens give students the opportunity to reach out to community groups in need and lend a hand.
