What Are Pesticides?
Pesticides are chemical or biological substances designed to kill, control, or repel a variety of living organisms such as insects (insecticides), weeds (herbicides), mold or fungus (fungicides) and rodents (rodenticides). Pesticides are essentially poisons. Some of the "inert" ingredients in pesticide products may also be poisons.
Health Effects of Lawn Chemicals
*HOW CAN I BE AFFECTED BY PESTICIDES?*
*Contrary to popular belief ingestion is not the most common form of exposure. The absorption of the chemicals through the skin and the inhalation of chemical mist is. Chemical absorption through the skin may come from contact with treated grass, or from mists or sprays during the application. Exposure through inhalation occurs from breathing in airbone mists or sprays of lawn chemicals.
*Indirect ingestion: During a pesticide application if the winows and doors of the house are not shut the mist from the application will drift inside and reside on household items such as food and drink.
*Pets:Although pets should not be allowed on lawns treated with chemicals, if they are it is not only adverse to the animal's health but the owner's as well. When an animal is exposed to pesticides it may also track them into the house and onto the owner.
