This is the area for our newbies, a place to introduce themselves and to ask silly and intelligent questions alike.
The Official Chairman of Heartfelt Welcomes, dear newbies, is gentle Claidham. If anyone here will be friendly towards you, it's him.
Ok, just kidding.
Welcome to the board!

Hello all. I've posted a few messages here before, but i've been internet deprived for the last three months so i thought i'd formally introduce myself. I am a college student at Purdue University studying english lit, and I read just about any fantasy novels that i can find. BTW thanks to all of you who have recomended Robin Hobb and Tad Williams, i've just finished reading both of their works.

Claidhaim;
'Screw Kay'?
While I usually would condone; yes, even applaud such a suggestion, I'm worried that it's non-exclusive tone might be taken literally by some lesser dignified people, and that they would drag me into a dark alley and act accordingly. My behind is too precious for me to risk such unwanted attention.
So if you would add "...if you're beautiful, and a woman, that is!!!" to your statement, I'd be grateful. Thank you in advance.

Certainly.
If you are beautiful, a woman, and want the most exciting experience of your life, then screw Kay.
Operators are standing by......

Hihi!! Thought I would introduce myself here to everyone.. I've read quite a few books from various authors, and GRRM ranks up there with the best of them. Other favorite authors are Robert Jordan (I know, his last book was horrible but I'll give him a chance to redeem himself ;) ), Thomas K Martin, Kate Elliot, all of the Dragonlance books, a few Forgotten Realms books (too plain for me though), David Gemmell, and others from various genre's (Clancy, Rice, Coonts, etc..)
Anywho's, hiya folks! =)

Welcome Loth! I think you will find many disgruntled WoT readers here.

Lol! I hope not, that's what I'm trying to get away from! ;)
Actually considering the number of excellent writers out there, I am not that disappointed with Jordan.
No really.. I'm not.. not..
<<walks away arguing with himself>>
Thanks for the welcome! As you can see by the time stamp, it's a really slow day at work today!

Read Melanie Rawn's stuff. She's not afraid to make her main characters suffer like normal human beings. And she keeps her stories in trilogies so you can get a conclusion within 4 years.

I've read a couple of her works before (Runes of Ambrai, Dragonprince and the one after, Dragonstar?). Pretty good writer, though the book after Runes of Ambrai (Mageborn Traitor if I recall correctly) really bored me. Maybe it was just one of those weeks. ;)
Kate Elliot is pretty good; her Burning Stone series (I _think_ that's what it's called) is very good.
