American Movie Classics Cancels "Remember WENN"; Announces Debut of "The Lot," to Air in December

WOODBURY, N.Y.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Sept. 25, 1998--"Remember WENN," American Movie Classics' award-winning original series, will not return with new original episodes for a fifth season in order to accommodate AMC's new original series, "The Lot," it was announced Friday by Marc Juris, senior vice president, original programming, packaging and production.

"Remember WENN" will return next season in encore presentations to allow a new audience to enjoy all 56 episodes in their original broadcast order.

"While `Remember WENN' has been a tremendous success on many levels, it has not generated the kind of audience required to make the show viable," Juris commented. "The four years of success we have had with `Remember WENN' has led AMC to continue its commitment to provide programming that is as innovative and original as `Remember WENN.'

"We believe `The Lot' is an ideal new show to deliver AMC's promise as the definitive classic-movie network. Finally, we thank the cast, producers, writers and creators of `Remember WENN' for creating and producing a quality series that, with one Emmy Award (and two nominations), has clearly become a standard by which all others will be judged."

Set in 1937, "The Lot" tells the story of Sylver Pictures, a small-time movie studio with big-time dreams. "The Lot" features an inventive twist: real gossip is taken from the pages of Hollywood's most successful fan magazines and woven throughout the fictional stories.

American Movie Classics is the premier 24-hour movie network, featuring award-winning original productions about the world of American film. AMC can be seen in 68 million homes.
