The Group of 8 (G8) richest states in the world are holding their next summit in Genoa, Italy in July 2001. Over 700 organisations have come together to create the Genoa Social Forum, to facilitate grassroots debate, protest and direct action against the environmental destruction and exploitation promoted by such meetings. Actions will also take place around the world - at Campsfield Detention Centre in the UK - in solidarity with the aims of the Genoa Social Forum.

Diverse actions against the Campsfield detention centre are being planned by a variety of groups, charities and individuals, including the ANARCHIST TRAVELLING CIRCUS, a creative CARNIVAL AGAINST CAMPSFIELD with samba bands, a Critical Mass action UK ACTION NEWS >>>, community and refugee support groups, world musicians, entertainers, side-shows, circus performers and theatre: email [email protected] if you can help.
The WOMBLES will feature in the ANARCHIST TRAVELLING CIRCUS events and entertainment, culminating in mass actions aiming to close Campsfield for good.

Why Campsfield?
While the G8 nations meet in Genoa to discuss ways of expanding free trade and profit, thousands of people will be fighting for survival in the country they live in or are forced to leave there just to survive.
Corporations cross borders all the time in search of people to exploit for profit and no one stops them. They call this process Globalisation. On the other hand, the victims of corporate domination are told they cannot cross borders in search of better lives. They are are forced to stay and deal with the social, economic and environmental destruction the companies leave in the wake when they move on to the the next state with even lower wages, weaker environmental protection sweeter tax breaks.
Or they can criminalise themselves, risking injury and death to have a chance at life. Those escaping persecution, murder, torture and exploitation often find their reception - in what they had assumed were civilised "safe" states - can be just as harrowing.
Campsfield House (6 miles from Oxford) is the UK's flagship Immigration Detention Centre. All of its inmates are escaping from oppressive states (know any other kind?) like Iraq, Turkey and Afghanistan. It was opened in 1993 and is run for profit by the private security firm Group 4. Campsfield operates as a high security prison with visitor searches, restricted visitation rights, a 20ft razor wire-topped fence, extensive use of surveillance cameras etc. Inmates are constantly told that they are not welcome in the UK and that the people do not want them here. Racism and physical abuses are integral parts of Campsfield's make-up. Many are so worn down they accept voluntary deportation.
The fight against the prison industry and deportations is an important struggle in the fight against capitalism. The G8 are meeting in Genoa between 20-22 July. Ya Basta! will open a "No Borders" camp in Italy to coincide with the meeting. A camp has been opened near the detention centre in solidarity with those in Italy and those locked behind the wire inside Campsfield's walls. Actions will take place demanding the closure of the centre.
Bring your mates, white overalls, helmets, padding, fun, food, banners, tents, ladders, bolt croppers, siege equipment...
Daily actions are continuing at Campsfield. Recently, one activist managed to get through a side gate and tried to climb the roof twice - once being confronted by an aggressive builder with a shovel and the second time by five Group 4 guards.

us to help plan for numbers - especially if you have access to kitchen
equipment, tents, yurts, large marquees, food, water or can help in any
other way.
