This picture of Carnforth Station, taken about 1870, is hardly recognisable by the present generation. Showing the top-hatted stationmaster and bearded railway servants and the old-fashioned locomotive drawn up against what is to-day the principal arrival platform for north-bound trains

The platform on the right is now entirely covered and is the departure platform for the south. The little wooden hut was the Post Office in those days, the ironworks chimney can be seen in the background, the only landmark  which  hasn't changed is the road bridge.
