PARKING NIGHTMARE - IS THIS THE END OF FREE PARKING?

There has recently been a renewed concern over the amount of car parking, space available in Carnforth.

Following the opening of the Station Visitor centre, rail companies are taking a serious look at their car parking facilities at the station. They are at present considering the introduction of a voucher scheme which would ensure that those using the car park are rail users.

A spokesman for the company stated that they are all too aware that a percentage of the parking space is taken up by workers in the town and not users of the rail service. It was further stated that the car park is intended for rail users. Steps are now to being considered to ensure that those rail users have somewhere to park.

A survey was carried out by the company, which revealed that even the Disabled bays are being used every day by those who are not entitled to use such parking facilities. Other schemes are also being considered to ensure that the car park is kept entirely for the use of those using the rail service.

The action is being taken following the number of complaints from rail users who are unable to park and use the rail services from Carnforth.

Both the rail and bus company stated that they regret the action they must now take but it has now become imperative that the parking problem for their rail users is relieved.
