BRIEF ENCOUNTER: MP Geraldine Smith who performed the opening ceremony and Peter Yates Chairman of the Carnforth Station Trust

A 10-YEAR dream came true yesterday when a derelict North Lancashire train station was reopened.
Carnforth Railway and Station Trust Company Limited officially launched Carnforth Gateway.
It represents the first stage in ambitious plans to restore the station to its former glory, following a Elm investment from Railtrack.
It is intended to be the gateway
for people in Carnforth to visit the proposed attractions of the island platform and the railway.
It will also encourage passengers arriving by railway to visit the town and its attractions.
The proposed attractions include the Brief Encounter Refreshment Rooms, the Carnforth Heritage Centre and a lecture theatre which will open next year.
