First Generation

1. Dennis¹ Burgin, son of Thomas Burgin and Ann, was born November 23, 1743. Dennis died 1821 in Madison Co., KY, at 77 years of age. His body was interred in Providence Methodist Church, Madison Co., KY.

He married Jane. Jane was born ca 1750. Jane died before 1833 in Madison Co., KY. Her body was interred in Providence Methodist Church, Madison Co., KY. Jane became the mother of Charles Burgin ca 1768. Jane became the mother of Thomas Burgin ca 1770.

Dennis became the father of Charles Burgin ca 1768. Dennis became the father of Thomas Burgin ca 1770. Dennis Burgin first appears in Madison County Court records in February, 1787. According to family tradition, he took part in the abortive attempt to settle Kentucky in 1773 led by William Russell and Daniel Boone. It is also claimed he was one of the roadcutters who cleared a path to Boonesborough in 1775 and he was in the fort at Boonesborough. No proof of these family traditions seems to exist at this time. Dennis served for a year in the North Carolina Continental Line during the Revolutionary War. He was buried at the Providence Methodist Church in Madison County. The Church was moved and the graveyard may no longer exist.
