Voluntarism Talk I - 29/8/97

Topic: Voluntarism: An Introduction and the Islamic Perspective

Speaker: Siti Hamidah Bahaswan , Manager of Social Action Department

Al-Hijrah, AMP Centre.

This workshop-like talk was organised to introduce and expose undergraduates to the field of voluntarism and social work. Undergraduates are informed on the importance of serving the community.

 

Inter-faculty 5-A-Side Street Soccer Competition (Muslimin) - 29-30/9/97 & 3/10/97.

This is the third time this competition is held and it attracted over 100 Muslim undergraduates. For the first time too a Challenge Shield is given out to give the competition a more glamorous feeling. There were also prizes for the Player of the Tournament (a golden ball trophy) and Top Scorer (a golden boot trophy) apart from the individual medals for the top four teams. The team that emerged champion was from the Arts guys who named themselves KITA.

 

Inter-faculty Handball Competition (Muslimah) - 16 & 19/9/97.

This is the muslimah's version of the inter faculty competition where they play handball instead of the usual netball. This activity managed to attract 60 participants from all faculties. Individual medals were also given for the finalist.

 

Pertapis Halfway House Visit - 24/11/97

This is the first visit we have this year and what an eye-opener it was. We were briefed of the running of the house and how the inmates were rehabilitated. We also had a personal contact with the inmates who were ever so willing to talk and share their experiences.

 

Forum I - 26/11/97

Topic: Siswazah Lambat Kahwin: Masalah dan Huraiannya

This forum attracted more than 100 audiences from the campus, other institutions of higher learning and the public too. The audiences were captivated by the speakers' humour and personal experiences,while addressing the issue. Of course, being a Welfare Secretariat, food was served to everybody.

 

Night Cycling - 29/11/97

Masjid Kampung Siglap - Suntec City - Botanic Garden - Orchard Road -

Boat Quay - Masjid Kampung Siglap

The first of its kind to be held by the secretariat. To many of the participants this is the first time they see Singapore in the early mornings. Though a bit tired at the end of the journey, they were eager and waiting for the next cycling trip.
