Inter- Varsity Games Competition - 13/12/97

Participants: NUS, NTU, and NIE

Games: Soccer, netball, carrom and scrabble

This is the first time such event took place and Insyaallah will be held every year. More games and sports will be contested next time and our fellow undergraduates will be all hyped and eager to win back the Challenge Shield from NTU, whom we lost to narrowly,

Iftar - 1 3/l/9 8

This is the ultimate food fiesta in NUS. Though the event was held to give opportunity to the undergraduates to break fast together among them and other students from other institutions, still what attracted them were the food that was served after the Maghrib prayers.

Voluntarism Talk II - 27/3/98

Topic: Involvement in Volunteer Work

Speaker: Siti Hamidah Bahaswan

This is the follow up talk after the first one. It tries to identify in which area undergraduates were interested in and where and how they could be volunteers.

Taman Negara. Trip (Pahang, Malaysia) -17-22/5/98

The first ever out-of-Singapore trip organised by the secretariat. About 20 energetic undergraduates signed up to conquer one of the world's oldest rainforest. Staying in the tents itself was such an experience. Our trip was enriched with cave exploration in Gua Telinga, which was full of bats and bat droppings (yuck!) Then we climbed Bukit Teresik and from the peak we could see the majestic Gunung Tahan (Oh my God! What a view!)

We also went through the longest suspended bridge in the world. It is 400 metres long and suspended at about 40 metres from the ground (no easy feat!).One of the activities we went through was rapid shooting ( just like the ones in River Wild except without Kevin Bacon and Merryl Streep). Almost everyday we had a dip in the cool rivers. ( for the guys it was not just their bodies that they dipped into the river but biscuits, which actually tasted so delicious with river water)

We also went to 2 hides (an elevated watch house to look at animals, which visit the Salt Lake at night) and in one of the nights, we managed to see a deer at Bunbun Tahan. The deer was not the only animal that we saw because we had very close contacts with monkeys and wild boars, which frequently visited our campsite.

On the last night, we dropped in at the local Pasar Malam and as Singaporeans, what else would we do but shop and shop and shop. Some of us also had the opportunity to 'bakar satay' to help the vendor who was struggling to prepare 200 sticks of satay for us.

Seniors' Farewell -6/6/98

This event was held with the graduating seniors in mind. It gives us the opportunity for the last mingle.Besides the usual giving out of the token of appreciation we also had a performance by our undergraduates, who were so willing to share a few songs with the graduating seniors (sob..sob)
