Mechanics Introduction:
Mekton book 1 differs to MZ in that a Mekton did not get as many spaces, got as high hit points per kill ratio, and the tonnage weight was equal to the CP cost. Yet Mektons were built in those early days like the Karkong-5, but instead of creating whole new Mekton updates, I decided to accept it like Deep Space Nine accepted the original Star Trek series with all it's 1960's flaws as a badge of honor. In other words I set up a rule of 'First Design' to simulate Mekton I conditions using MZ. First Design is great to use not only for simulating/updating the original Mektons from the first system, but it is great to simulate/make mecha from the earlier days of anime – you know, the 1950's to early 1970's robot-types. (See Notes for Rule of First Design)

Note: Figures in the Brackets are the original MZ figures bought before the 'First Design' rules.

Service Record:
The Karkong-5 series was the first Mektons produced by Barada Industries. When the Karkong first came out, the Mekton War was fully underway and the Karkong joined the fray on the side of the Ettarans. As newer Mektons and Wars changed, the Karkong was still being produced for the Ettarans, but ever increasingly left the front lines to defence of cities and convoys.

In Modern times the Karkong is still instrumental for smaller Algolian cities defence and affordable for young mecha pilots eager to own their very own mecha.

Note: Laser/Plasma stats are the standard for Laser/Plasma Gun weapons of the First Generation (there were no other ones beyond a Rifle versions of the Laser/Plasma). Strangely these early designs were amazingly compact to standard versions; despite the early technologies.

*Note: Mekton I states it useses Nutrino Furnace, Mekton II states it useses Nucleonic Fusion, and Mekton Z uses whatever you wish, but standards on Cold Fusion. Since I can't agree on giving a specific name and to keep this fairly generic, I choose to use to call it Cold Fusion Furnace system. In the eyes of MZ, the name doesn't matter, just it's game effects.

Multiplier Cost : x1.0

**Power Plant Lifespan: 10 Algolian Years.

**Lifespan for Mekton-scale, Standard Charge, Cold Fusion Furnaces are set for 10 Algolian years combat or otherwise. Overcharge cuts the time in half and Supercharge cuts the time to a quater, while Undercharge doubles the time. Scales effect the time by the same factor as the scale is. and the time can be increased in factors adding x1.0 Multiplier Cost per doubling the lifespan, and -x0.2 per year taken off in decreasing the time.

Cockpit Controls:
Control System  M-Pool  Cost
Cockpit (1 spc)
*Early Screen... -1.....-x0.025

*Note: Although screens are used, the rest of the controls are darn right primitive compared to Screens. Therefor I have used a mid-form between Screens and Manual, calling it Early Screen for a -x.025 cost and -1 Pool.

Cost : -x.025

P+C+H Cost Multiplier : x1.975
P+C+H M-Pool Bonus(+%) : -1

Base Weight : 40.0 t
Fuel Weight : 4.0 t
New Weight : 44.0 t
Base Cost : 50.96(72.63)CP
Total Multipliers : x1.975
Final Cost : 100.65(143.45)CP
Sales Price : 1,000,000¥ (1.4 Million Yen)

Notes:
The Karkong has no spare spaces and only enough room for the pilot.

Variants:
Although all Karkong-5s are basically the same, only the way the arms is configured that seperates them. The names of the variants may sound funny, but no body ever said Nick Barada was bright with words.

BLeGH Karkong-5: The 'Blegh' variant is exactlly like the in configuration as the 'Brigh', (BRiGH Karkong-5,) accept the Gun Hand is on the Left. This variant is to serve primarily to accomodate left handed pilots. Note: BLeGH stands for Barada's Left Gun Hand.

BaDoGH Karkong-5: The 'Ba-Dogh' variant specializes for long range defence against mecha and aircraft capacity with both it's arms being plasma gun hands. Note: BaDoGH stands for Barada's Double Gun Hands.

BaNoGH Karkong-5: The 'Ba-Nogh' variant specializes for close range attack and defence against other mecha as both it's arms are normal hands. Note: BLeGH stands for Barada's No Gun Hand)

Rule of First Design:

  • For Servos, Armor, Weapons, and Sensors, the MZ Kills/SP are cut in half and rounded to the nearest number, for a 20% rebate. (Technically it should be a fifth, but the Kill/SP numbers become too low and give too much a rebate.) You must have at least 1 Kill in the end. If it is 1 Kill only in the first place, their is no rebate as you cannot go less than 1 kill and therefore there is nothing lost so nothing gained. You only get a one time 20% rebate for each part, you can't get a 40% rebate if you have a weapon that is decreased in Kills and Damage; only one 20% rebate for both effects.
  • Servo Space are cut in half and rounded to the nearest number, for a 20% rebate. No servo can have less than 1 space. If it is 1 Space only in the first place, their is no rebate as you cannot go less than 1 Space and therefore there is nothing lost so nothing gained.
  • Armor is always considered to be of the Ablative-type; so DC 0 and a x0.5 multiplier for Armor it goes.
  • Weight Inefficiency is automatic; so weight equals it's cost and you get an overall 20% rebate. (Weight counted is the CP value without the rebates.) An adjustment to weight is made only once before the Movement Propulsion Systems by mulitplying the weight by x0.9 and costs nothing for this one time adjustment.
  • Sensors are always bought at Striker class , since their was only one standard at the time of Mekton I -- there was nothing else. Further more, it was extremely rare to non-existant for a mekton to have a second sensor system. Go figure. (Striker class fits the closes of 50 Hex x 50 m of 2500m range set in Roadstriker book I).
  • Rebates are only valid if the mecha is to be built in modern times with the technology of yesteryear. All rebates are not valid for mecha built in the era of the were made (Mekton book I), since at the time the technology was at it's infancy and was also considered leading edge for it's time. Furthermore, antique mecha built in the past and are in mint condition can usually fetch 2-3 times the cost sans-rebate as collector mecha.
  • Ignore the Hydraulics mentioned in Mekton book 1, when converting/updating.
  • Movement Systems: Fans are GES, and Jets are Thrusters. All flight systems were rated for 10 MA, and the assumption is that they all contain just the 'Base Load Fuel'. Before you work out the Movement systems, calculate your Mekton's weight, and multiply it by 90%. This is a one time free of charge Weight Efficiency mentioned above, as this is to adjust the weight of First Generation Mecha due to the fact there was no accountablity for fuel weight of Flight systems in the original system that MZ does.
    • Need Spaces for the Flight System? First take all the leftover spaces in the sevos, then remember all the spaces you lost in the servos, now you can buy them back to fit the rest of the Flight System in. You can buy back these spaces at 0.2 CP a space, this is the only time you can do so. Spaces recovered from the Servos are considered to be a special Space Efficiency for the Movement system. This type of Space Efficiency is added to the Movement System cost -- not the Servos! Note: Mekton I Mecha usually had all the Flight system outlet in their legs.
  • Brief Tech Explaination to the Rule of First Design is: Servos, machinery, and electronics were bigger, bulkier, less efficient, and heavier than modern ones. Example: They used steam instead of combustion engines, or Hydraulics with water fluid instead of oil, or vaccum tubes instead of microchips.
