Humes

Ireland -> Pennsylvania 18th Century, eventually to Westmoreland County in south-west PA by 1795

Information from James R. Hume's Hume Family Home Page and from Humes Family by John Lindberg, sent to me by Sue Thompson.
See also this Hume(s) line.
In 1823 another Humes family (Patrick Humes, originally from County Tyrone, Ireland) moved from Chester County, PA to nearby Beaver Co., PA. No apparent connection.
My 6th Great Grandfather, John Humes
Born 1750 in Ireland, died Dec. 21, 1834 in Westmoreland Co., PA. bur. in Unity Cemetery, Latrobe, Westmoreland Co., PA. m. Christine Elizabeth Gibson (possibly the daughter of James Gibson of Export, PA)
Revolutionary War soldier and early settler Of Westmoreland County, PA, circa 1795 (however, the biography of James Gibson Humes's grandson, Dr. James R. Humes, claims that James Gibson Humes was born in Westmoreland Co. and he was supposedly born 1794) owned the plantation of "Southampton" near Manor, PA. Member of "seceeder church".[*].
As for his revolutionary war service, I have come across two sets of Pennsylvania records that might be him (or perhaps both are):
    - A John Hume served Inactive duty with the Lancaster County militia 6th Battalion 1778-1779 and there are records of him with the 9th Battalion on 1 May & 30 May, 1782.
    - A John Humes is in a record of Inactive duty with the Cumberland County militia 8th Battalion in a company from what looks to read Kishacoouillis valley (presumably Kishacoquillas valley of modern Mifflin & Huntingdon counties) in a record from 23 Aug. 1780 and under 'remarks' it reads: "Is on Frontier, must move family, break up settlement entirely on Duty scouting 4 weeks in summer in regular classes. March: Pay." and under muster Fines it has £22.10.0.. He also served with the 8th Battalion under a different Captain Aug. 29-Oct. 26, 1780.
1800 Census for Franklin Township, Westmoreland Co., PA (Sheet No: 191A, Reel: M32-41, Page 950) has a John Humes household with one male & female each 45+ (John & Christine), 3 females aged 10-16 (3 of the 4 eldest daughters? probably Margaret, Mary, & Agness since it appears Jane is already listed with Robert in the Mead Twp., Crawford Co. census), one female 10 or under (Ann), & 3 males 10 or under (James, John, & Thomas). There is also one Non-taxed, non-slave in the household (?).
