A Brief Biography Of St. George The Alexandrian:

There was a merchant from Alexandria who has been known among the people as a decent, an honest, and a very kind man and everyone loved him. He was married to the governor Armanious's sister. They were very happy together, but the one thing that bothered them was that they didn't have children. One day the merchant went to El-led a city in Palestine, and the Christians there were celebrating the feast of the consecration of St. George's church. The merchant entered the church to see the feast, and many miracles and wonders happened. This led him to believe in God and decided to be a Christian. He was baptized, and asked for St. George's prayers to ask the Lord to give him a son. When he returned back to Alexandria, St. George (the Roman) appeared to his wife in a vision, and she too believed and was baptized. They had a son and called him George. George grew up, and worked with his father as a merchant. They worked very hard together and honestly and all their work was blessed. George's parents asked him to find a kind lady and marry her, but George declared that his life is wholly for the Lord. After George's father's death, George lived with the governor Armanious (his uncle) and his daughter in their palace. One day, Armanious's daughter went for a walk and saw a monastery for nuns and heard beautiful hymns and spiritual songs. She then asked George about this monastery, so he took the chance and told her everything about Jesus Christ and the salvation process. She believed and became a Christian. When Armanious knew that his daughter became a Christian, he was furious and ordered her to forget everything about Christianity, but when she refused, he tortured her until she died. When Armanious knew that George was the one who told his daughter everything about Christianity, he tortured him cruelly and at last he ordered his head to be cut off, and that was the same day of celebration of St. George's in Palestine ( 7 Hatour = 16 November). After a while, St. George's body was found by a good servant whose name was Samuel, he took care of it and put it in Manff. When Armanious's wife knew the place of the body, she took it to be buried beside her daughter's. The relic is now in a small town called Rashied.

Let us ask him to intercede on our behalf that the Lord may forgive us our sins… Amen.
