LITTER BOX - Most know to use the litter box. When a ferret kit is raised by it's mother. The mother teaches the kit how to use the litter box and not make a mess and scolds it when it misses the box. Many kits are taken away from their mothers so young that they don't get the training. So you have to do the mothers job. When you see you ferret starting to poop. Pick it up and place it in the litter box. You may need to do this many times before it gets the hint that this is where it must go to the bathroom. Some are good and some never seem to learn. We put boards and Plexiglas under our boxes for the ones who like to go next to the box. Saves your carpet from the mess. If your ferret misses the box and you can't get to him right away don't discipline him. He may not remember what he did wrong if you wait to long.

Harness : Harness your ferret if you plan to take it outside with you. You can get it used to it around the house first. Put the ferrets harness on and make it tight enough that you can fit a finger snugly between the harness and the ferret. Ferrets will act like it's killing them but don't worry the are great escape artists. Interesting note: They have been known to hold their breath in order to make the harness loose so they can escape. So make sure it is secure before you go outside.

Tricks : There any tricks that your fuzzy can learn. These take a lot of one on one time and som patients. Roll-Over, Beg and others read up and have fun.

Digging : Stopping them from digging is not to be seen. You can put down some carpet swatches or boards to save your carpet though. Potted plants should be moved out of reach or heavy flat stones can be placed on the soil to discourage your fert from replanting your fern everyday.
