The season is starting pretty good so far for the defending Super Bowl Champions. Now 2-0, they have taken the NFL by storm, where only the Denver Broncos rank better in the Power Poll. For the first time in 8 games including playoffs, quarterback Steve Marcucci failed to throw a touchdown pass, but he made up for it by running for a touchdown in a critical point of the game. RB Harold Currier ran for only 8 yards but had a touchdown run in the Flamers 18-6 win over New England. On defense, the Flamers allowed a touchdown for the first time in two games, but an unstoppable attack from defenders Lauren Byrne (who racked up 12 tackles to lead the team including her first NFL sack), and Tito and Mike Kittredge (who each had for sacks and a safety on Patriots QB Drew Bledsoe). The Flamers struggled on offense throughout the whole game compared to their 55-6 win last week over Buffalo, as punter P.J. Ambrefe had to be called to punt 15 times during the game. The offensive line is a big part of this large number, as they allowed Marcucci to be sacked an unbelievable 13 times throughout the game. Without passing game, receiving game cannot exist, as the two main receivers, James DeLuca and Nelly Sweeney, were held to a combined 12 catches and 142 yards and no touchdowns. The Flamers will travel to San Diego next week to play the Chargers, looking for their second 3-0 start in a row.
