The battle for the only undefeated record in the NFL began with a blast at Alltell Stadium, the acting home for the Frankfurt Flamers. The first possession of the game for the Flamers was marked by a 21-yd reception by WR Nelly Sweeney, a 27 and 22-yd reception by WR James DeLuca, and a 19-yd TD reception by FB Kyle Hayden, his first NFL TD reception. The next possession was clearly marked by a 1st Down 25-yd reception by Nelly Sweeney and a 57-yd TD run by RB Harold Currier. By far his longest run from scrimmage in an NFL uniform. However, defensive penalties sparked a potent offense for the Cowboys, as consecutive face-mask penalties of 15 yards each by James DeLuca and DT Craig Baker allowed for the 1-yd TD run by Cowboys RB Emmit Smith to cut the Flamers lead to 14-7. After a Flamers' 3-and-out, LB Bryce Read recovered a fumble by Emmit Smith as he ran it back 21 yards for the TD, 21-7 Flamers. Cowboys PK Richie Cunningham quickly added a 34-yd FG to cut it to 21-10, but a 56-yard reception by James DeLuca and a 20-yd TD reception by Nelly Sweeney pushed the lead back up to 28-10. After halftime, Cunningham booted a 52-yard FG for the Cowboys final score of the game. The score became 35-13 as a lengthy scoring drive by the Flamers capped off by a Sweeney 12-yd TD reception took place in the closing minutes. QB Steve Marcucci received the game MVP, throwing 20-for-36, with 339 yards and 3 TD's. The defensive MVP was given to Bryce Read, who had 6 sacks on the game, including a fumble recovery returned for a TD. The Flamers are the only undefeated team in the league, at 7-0.
