The Chiefs threatened the Flamers 7-0 record immediately by taking a 10-0 lead on a 47-yd FG by KC PK Pete Stoyanovich and a 66-yd TD run by RB Donnell Bennett. However Flamers RB Harold Currier ran for a 12-yd gain on 2nd down, and WR Nelly Sweeney caught two passes, one for 23 yards, and the next for 34 yards and the TD, cutting the lead to 10-7. PK Pat McNeill then tied the score on a 31-yd FG. On the next Flamers drive, Nelly Sweeney caught 4 passes [20, 19, 25, 10 (TD)] giving the Flamers a short 17-10 lead, and the Chiefs tied it up again with an Elvis Grbac 21-yd pass to WR Derrick Alexander (17-17). After halftime however, QB Steve Marcucci and the Flamers were able to catch fire, with a 19-yd pass to Sweeney, a 25-yd pass to WR James DeLuca, and another TD pass to Sweeney, this one of 16 yards. Stoyanovich's 44-yd FG was the last bit of offense that the Chiefs could put on the board, as Pat McNeill kicked a 43-yd FG, and Nelly Sweeney caught her 4th touchdown pass of the day (her NFL leading 10th of the season), as the Flamers win 34-20, and Sweeney becomes the NFL's first and only 1,000 yard receiver this season to lead the league, even over teammate James DeLuca. She also became the first and only receiver of 10 touchdowns so far this season. She earned the game MVP award for the 2nd time this season, and also the Offensive Player of the Week award. On defense, LB Bryce Read came up with his 3rd defensive MVP in a row, with 4 sacks. The Flamers are 8-0, and they will go in to face the New York Giants to become a step closer to claiming an undefeated record for the season.
