History
- There has been a unit attached to the16th Lancaster Group since the Early seventies.
- At first it was a joint unit with 53rd Lancaster Scout Group, and so logically it became the 69th.
- There were 10-15 members at that time The Eighties were a boom time for Ventures in the Lancaster and Morecambe, with as many as 100 Ventures meeting regularly, as well as having many joint and district events.
- Unfortunate circumstances lead to the two groups splitting and a unit at 16th Lancaster gradually shrunk, as more Ventures left to go to University, with less carrying on to 20.
- The Unit decided to become mixed and this boosted the numbers again in 1990.By 1992 we had 15 members, and looking good.
- A joint camp on Skye was held with Scorpio Vengers in Morecambe that year, and this led the Vikings as we were now known to expand and bring in friends.
- As many as 35 Ventures met and we had to move out of the small room at the Scout hut and into a room at the Parish hall.
- Fortunately the Scouts decided to move their meeting night, so we could move back.
- The unit shrunk back to 10-15 members where it has remained for the past few years - losing when ventures go to university, but always gaining new members.
- An alliance was formed in 1995 with 23rd Lancaster to form a joint unit with them, which has been very successful, and is ongoing.
