~Cats~

There are cats of many colors
And cats of many a kind,
All are soft and cuddly
And perfectly matched for humankind!

Before moving here to Florida
I had a beautiful cat.
She was a stray
that found her way to my backdoor
one cold and rainy night.

Our little family was not over the loss of our son
Christopher
and this was the evening of his first birthday without him.

It was a night that was very painful
and everyone went to bed but me.
I sat in my livingroom crying
wanting to hug my son just one more time,
and suddenly I heard a faint little cry
and I knew it was a kitten.
I ran to the door the sound was coming from
and there in the rain
stood a tiny bundle of fur
soaking wet and so sad.
I took her in
and somehow I could feel my son's hand in all of this.
His love for animals was like none I had ever seen before.

A simple name, "Ms. Kitti"
was to be her name and she became a very special friend to me.
We were never apart until I moved to Florida.
She came here with me
and disappeared two days later.
And to this very day
I am still searching
hoping I will find her.

It has been four years now.

Ms. Kitti made herself quite at home
stalking about the house trying to claim her many areas.
One area though that she could never ouite claim
was my bird's cage!
My bird was tough
little but tough
his name was Sunny
and he was not going to let "that cat" terrorize him!!
Fat chance of that happening!
And as it turned out,
Ms. Kitti and Sunny actually became good friends.
She was that gentle that tough little "feather-face"
scared her!

~Ms. Kitti~

She was a baby in the rain
Cold and wet
as she gazed through my windowpane.

Her eyes of gold stared up at me
Pulling at my heart
like a wide-eyed refugee.

Shivering and wet, in the dark she stood
Her life was in the balance
and death an easy likelihood.

So with uneasy hands, I did open the door
And whispered "come in"
to my sad eyed visitor.

Slowly she entered into my heart
Knowing from that moment
we would never be apart.

And so it was for many a year
Through our time together
she filled my life with cheer.

Then one bright and sunny day
She had vanished, or so it seemed
somehow she had slipped away.

I waited and I watched,
till days turned into years
And even now I know
I feel her presence near.

Cliche's About Cats

Morals of an alley cat and scruples of a snake!
Busier than a one-eyed cat watching two mouse holes!
Not enough room to swing a cat!
The cat's whiskers!
Slicker than cat poop on a linoleum floor!
Nervous as a cat in a room full of rockers!
Busy as a cat on a hot tin roof!
Let the cat out of the bag!
Quick as a cat!
There's more than one way to skin a cat!

These are not my own, of course!
But it is so strange to me how people do use
our lovely furry friends in these "cliche's"

I hope these have not offended anyone
as they are not placed here for that purpose.
~Thanks~

~Little Paws Prayer~

This is a prayer for little paws
All up and down the land,
Driven away, no friendly voice
Never an outstretched hand.

For weary paws of little beasts
Torn and stained with red
And never a home and never a rest,
Till little beasts are dead.

Oh God of homeless things, look down
And try to ease the way
Of all the little weary paws
That walk the world today.

~Cat Communication~

Have you ever really thought about
the way your cat communicates?
I love cats,so I am always watching their every move
and some of the things that I have found to be standard amoung all cats are:
A cat talks to other cats by its facial expressions,
some of them to subtle for us to even notice.
A cat talks to other cats with its eyes
whiskers and body.
A cat's "meow" is primarily for conveying messages to people,
who can't seem to understand a cat otherwise.

Some of the more obvious signs cats use are:
Fluffed up tail---fright
Tail drooping---disgust or fatigue, possible ill health
Lashing tail---anger or curiosity
Tall in the air---gay, good health
Growl---anger
Purr---contentment
A light upwardly inflected "meow"---a question; when addressed to another cat,
usually means, "Come Play"
Ears flattened against head---intense anger
Ears tilted backward---displeasure
Ears pricked far forward---attention
Whiskers forward---curiosity
Rubbing of whiskers on you or an object---love or desire
Fur ruffled up---too cold or ill health.

Since my beautiful cat Ms. Kitti went away
I thought I may never have another cat
as it was very painful for me
and still is
for me to think of her as gone forever.
The hunting for her is over
but she shall always be with me
I will always love her so.

Time passed, and one day, while in Ann Arbor, Michigan
an older woman told me to visit the Aminal Shelter there.
Not really wanting to,
because I was still wanting Ms. Kitti to come home,
I went and visited the Shelter there
and there in a cage all alone
and looking as though she had lost her only friend
was another beautiful Maine Coone Cat!

Did I adopt her?
You bet your buttons I did!!
Her name was Niki, and I chose to leave it so
even though she was not a year old yet, and I was told changing it would be easy.
She was everything I wanted
and Niki does still live with me in Florida!
And I am so proud to show her off!
These are a only a few picture of her,
but keep in mind, this cat came from an Animal Shelter in Michigan
she is a full breed Maine Coone with her papers.
Someone was watching over me that day,
when in my sorrow over my lost little friend
just look what I was given!

Niki is a Puddin'
and she is every bit as sweet as Ms. Kitti
they are almost punch-out copies of one another!

So the next time you all think of maybe getting a cat
for your housepet
Please Remember your Local Animal Shelter!

The one down here in this Beach area of the Jacksonville,
puts to sleep on the average of 2000 cats and tiny kinntens
each and every week!
And this is but Shelter in the Jacksonville, Florida area!
I was horrified when I heard this!
Young kittens are not really even put out for adoption at all
is what I have been told
and this holds true for mother cats and their young!
My neice worked for this Animal Shelter here and
apparently they are so over-loaded with kittens and cats
they have found no other way to handle the problem.
I shutter at young kittens being put to sleep
before they even have a chance at life
I don't understand people moving from one place to another
and simply leaving their family cat behind
to fend for itself
this is totally disgusting to me!
At this time
I am taking care of a beautiful cat that someone moved off and left behind.
She and my cat Niki, have a bonding now
but this cat was near wild when she found food on my porch!
She has had two litters since
and one from each litter is also in my care.
Recently she had a third litter
at which a neighbor called animal control upon seeing this litter hidden in the bushes
and now all the kitten are gone
they were taken by Animal Control
and here, that means they are now dead!

My Plea is simple
Please do not take a cat as a pet and than turn it out into the world
as this one mother cat I now have was done.
When you take a cat or dog as a pet
you are responsible f or their care and upkeep
these are not wild animals,
and reguardless what you have been told in the past
they CANNOT fend for themselves in the wild!!

I am but one voice
asking you to please be kind to all animals
and in many cases,
this does mean
do not adopt one or buy one
unless plan on giving this animal a proper home
and that does mean for the extent of that animal's life
not until you get tired of it!

If you are serious about adopting a cat or dog
visit your locale Animal Shelter and
SAVE a young cat or dog from being put to sleep.
And you can even get a certian breed if that is what you are looking for
but remember one thing
the VERY BEST breed is a loving one
it wears no "LABEL" for what sort of breed that it is.

Yes, I got lucky
I found a Maine Coone,
but she was going to be put to sleep at the end of that week
if she was not adopted
Michigan, like anywhere else can only hold cats for adoption for a period of time
that time being about one week.
So for me, it was more than what breed she was
I could not leave her there knowing what amount of time she had left
and they will tell you
if you take the time to ask.
So please do visit your nearest Animal Shelter
if you truly want a pet and
and let your heart lead you from that point.

Thank you for taking the time to read this
this is something that is very important to me
and
should be to all of us.

All Cats love attention
and the more you give your cat
the friendlier they will be.

Cats enjoy love---and lots of it!
They don't care if you love them in a hut or
in a palace
they don't care whether they eat from tin dishes or
bone china!
They don't care about your background or
your job
so long as you have time for them!
They'll adjust their hours to yours
and alter their mealtime to suit your convenience
so long as the feeding is regular.

Simply put
you can find no better friend
than your furry little friend!
They are
without a doubt
"Little People is Furry Suits!
The most faithful friend you will ever find
can indeed be your cat!
