Day 3: I Left the Zoo.

Check out this awesome photo i snagged of a polar bear at "The Zoo."
Okay, so it's a picture of a picture.  But it looks the sh*t, doesn't it?

Tuesday.  Sis's birthday.  She thought it'd be a good idea to hit the water park, seeing as how the average temperature the past few days had been solid 80's.  Welp, that day decided to be difficult.  Heavy winds followed us during the 10-or-so-minute walk from the hotel, keeping the temperature somewhere in the mid 60's.  Nevertheless, Sis was determined to have a good time there, and i wasn't up to arguing with her, so i threw on a swimsuit and tagged along.  I wound up manning the table while they went into the "kiddie" section -- figured 1) it was an excuse to keep myself out of the freezing cold water, and 2) there's simply no sense in paying $6 to rent a locker for a couple'a hours.  Besides, the stroller wasn't going to fit.  So yeah, they splashed around for a bit, i sat at the table doing crosswords, and after not even an hour, it was decided that it was too fricken cold to be out at the water park.  So we packed up our stuff and headed back to the hotel.

I think we ended up driving to SeaWorld, cuz the bus schedule to and from the park was screwey.  (More about which, probably later.)  Well, i call it a "park" ... i think it calls itself an "Adventure Park."  But in reality it's just a zoo with an attitude problem.  It's got animals locked up in cages (or aquariums where appropriate) for people to come and ogle at.  It's got little shows with animals in it.  It has a crappy motion sim, but the ride's just a not-too-clever disguise for a documentary about animals.  It has a pretty decent boat ride thingie (a la Jurassic Park/Splash Mountain) and a swee-ee-ee-eet rollercoaster (the Kraken -- more about which, soon), but when it all comes down, it's just a f*cking zoo.  =)

So yeah, we hit the zoo about ... eh, idunno.  Looked at a few of the aquariums and slowly made our way to the rides.  Think we hit the Kraken before we hit Journey to Atlantis, but it might've been the other way.  (Actually, no.  We hit JTA first, cuz i remember joking with Sis about going to "spin-dry" ourselves on Kraken.  Ah vell.)  Anywho, Kraken (like i said) was very nice.  Your typical stand-up coaster (a la Carowinds' "Vortex" or King's Dominion's "Shockwave") with a ton of inversions (loops and other upsidedownstuff -- i forgot to count just how many).  Very smooth ride.  Good fun.  And the boat ride (JTA) was pretty funny.  You go down this massive hill, and don't get wet for crap, and then a moment later, you go down this teeny little drop and get drenched.  Well i guess on the big hill, you've got all this forward momentum, so all the water goes out in front of you and to the sides, but down that teeny drop, all the water comes splashing over the side of the boat and into your shorts.  And it wasn't a lot warmer when we rode the thing than it had been that morning.  So we come off drenched, and somehow come to the conclusion that the Arctic Adventure motion sim -- let me repeat that for you: the ARCTIC Adventure motion sim -- had to be the next thing we'd hit.

So yeah, we come off the crappy motion sim thing cold and wet and chaffing and miserable.  Think Seth wound up hopping most of the way back to the van, cuz he couldn't walk.  And we missed the Shamu show, which Seth was a li'l disappointed about.  But we managed to squeak out of the parking lot before the final show ended, which means we only caught half of the insane mob of people leaving the park.  After that, it was back to the hotel for hot showers and dry clothes.
