Anywho, the "Duku" thing ... (Brace for gratuitous
exposition!!) Evidently "duku" (pronounced "DUH-kuh" -- duh!)
is Hailey's word for "turtle." And "tiger." And "duck."
And probably two or three other animals that i don't know about yet.
Welp, Seth and i picked up on this pretty early on in the week, so for the
rest of the week any time Seth or i saw an animal that Hailey didn't
already have a word for (basically anything that wasn't a "puppy" -- i.e.,
a dog, wolf, cat, orangutan ...), we'd go "Hey, Hailey! Look at the
duku!" Didn't really seem to confuse or frustrate the kid -- which
is good, since that wasn't our intention. Our intention was, in
fact, to get that "Heh ... that's cute guys ... now giveitafrickenrest"
laugh from Sis. And to that end, it was a smashing success. =)
Anywho, by the end of the week, it just kind'a became a running joke for Seth and me. If one of us was talking and got stuck on a word, the other would interject, "Duku?" to which the first would reply, "Yeah! Duku! No, wait ..." (Once again, same principle as the "gay-vision glasses" -- simple pleasures for simple minds. =) |
