It is very important that you get the best cage you can get for your bird, because, after all, birds eat, sleep, and play in their cages. Therefore, you should always get the proper sized cage for your bird. even if your bird doesn't use all of the space in its cage, it is still their space and so they feel comfortable in their cage. Your pet store should provide you with the proper information on cage size. You should get the largest cage for your bird that you can afford, and make sure that it is rectangular. A circular cage makes a bird feel unprotected and unsafe. Also, make sure that there are no spaces where two sides of the cage are put together. These can result in a bird getting its foot stuck. Another thing to be sure of is that the bars on the cage are not too far apart from each other. If they are, a bird may be able to stick its head all the way out of the cage. This makes them easily accessable to dogs and cats, and a frightened bird may panic and hang itself. Another thing is that, if the cage comes with a playpen top, you still shouldn't let the bird play on top of it. Birds should never go on top of their cages. It gives them a different perspective of the cage. If the cage comes with a playpen top and a regular top, put on the regular top and use the playpen top as a playpen and set it on a table or a stand. Also, be sure that there is a tray at the bottom where poop and fallen bits of food can be collected. The bird should not be able to reach these things. It is unhealthy. |

Your bird should get used to its cage before anything else in your house when it comes home, because a cage provides a bird with a feeling of security. Therefore, when you bring your bird home, you should place it in its cage immediately. the cage should be ready for the bird, with food, water, toys and perches already set up. The bird should be left in its cage for two days without much attention. This will give it time to get used to its cage. You should only take your bird out of its cage once or twice during the first few days, and for about 15 minutes each time. after a few days, your bird will probably be used to its cage so it will be okay to take it out more often. |
