Homemade Toys | ||||||||||||||||
I love homemade toys. They are fun to make, easy, inexpensive, and your bird will love them. Making homemade toys is simple. First, just gather a pile of bird-safe objects like toilet paper rolls, beads, string, drink lids, shredded paper, popsicle sticks, etc. Next, tie them together and make the ultimate toy! Here are some ideas:
You will need: one toilet paper roll, a long piece of string, some plastic beads, and a holepuncher. Step 1: Take your toilet paper roll and, with hole puncher, punch several holes in it. Step 2: Take your long piece of string and weave it through the holes, adding beads here and there. Step 3: Give your new toy to your bird and watch him have fun! Here is another idea: You will need: A piece of wire, pliers, and some beads Step 1: Use your pliers to make one end of the wire so that beads cannot pass it. Step 2: Twist wire in a spiral or serpentine shape, adding beads Step 3: Using pliers, attach the end that was not bent in Step 1 to a perch. Here is one more: You will need: A card board box, an X-ACTO knife, and some tape. Step 1: Take apart the box and bend it into a tunnel shape. There can be two tunnels, if you would like. Tape it so that it stays in this shape. Just make sure that your bird can fit through the tunnels easily. Step 2: Cut holes in he walls of the tunnel(s) with X-ACTO knife that are big enough for your bird to fit through. Step 3: Put various items such as beads or popsicle sticks inside and let your bird explore! And here is one more: You will nead: A clean sock, and several small items such as beads or Q-tips. Step 1: Open the sock Step 2: Fill the sock with "mystery items" Step 3: Give your finished toy to your bird! |

Fun Games | ||||||||||||||||
There are several games I like to play with my bird. Here are some of them:
PEEKABIRDY To play, drape a piece of fabric over a perch, making a "tent." Next, place your bird on a space below the perch where he can be concealed by the tent. Next, pretend to look all over the place for your bird, and finally come to the tent, go to the side that his back his facing, lift up a little bit of the tent and say, "PEEKABIRDY!" EXPLORING To play, simply clear an area, such as a room or a hallway, of all dangerous items. Next, put your bird down on the floor and get on the floor too, so that you are at the same level as your bird and it won't think that you are punishing it. Then, wait for your bird to walk somewhere, and follow it. If your bird doesn't know what to do, try leading him and then follow him. Once your bird comes to an enticing object, remove it. Then, give it to it later. my bird doesn't look for objects when we go exploring, he just likes to find his way around the house. BIRDWATCHING This isn't really a game, but it is still fun for your bird. All you have to do is go to a window and look out it at whatever it out there. Your bird will most likely be fascinated by any movement. Mango and my mom watch the crows eat the crackers we leave outside for them. Mango gets so scared, he huffs and puffs. But we take him away from the window when he does that. However, he loves to watch the cars go by. |
