a dolphin sings

A sonnet to a dolphin; no, make that a sonnet to All dolphins from All humans.

I wrote this poem in the brief span of an hour. It came to me as I was washing dishes. Someday I'll get a dishwasher but then maybe I'll miss a few poems too.

The evening before this was written I was on Rita's pages and because I adore Rita I told her I would write a poem about dolphins...just give me a few weeks, as I had other things too. Besides, it was a challenge to myself and I took it on as my first 'commissioned' work - to myself.

I woke up to dolphins the next day; a whole sea of them. Before breakfast I knew I'd be starting a new poem right then.

It took the form of a sonnet because of the lines that I had and because I wanted a strong ending. I decided not to carry it more than fourteen lines. Very few words were changed from the original and the end result was that Rita got her poem weeks early. Perhaps she didn't know; my ancestors were ceteceans. It helps to have connections.
