Synopsis
If you have ever seen Paramount's
Star Trek V, you should remember the Yosemite scene where Kirk,
Spock and McCoy are sitting around a campfire. It pretty much frames
the whole movie. In our version, the parts of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy
are played by Jackson Price, Jon Davidenas, and Kurt Schuette respectively.
It was filmed on location by the woods behind Kurt's house. With
an outdoor location, we were actually able to use a REAL campfire.
With a little ingenuity, we were able to figure out a good lighting situation.
A neat thing about this film was that it offered all three of us the opportunity
to get behind the camera and direct at some point. Unfortunately,
this was the last archive that Jon participated in before moving to Hawaii.
It was filmed in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 1, and Jon
left on Monday August 3, 1998.
Star Trek V was a
dream of Kurt and Jackson's since the idea came up in 1993. Back
in 1993, Jackson and Kurt were fresh out of doing The Star Trek IV Themed
Mio Video, and we thought it was about time for us to actually do a
film where we spoke. We thought that Star Trek V would be a good
topic, so we did it (for some reason, many of our early archives had a
Star Trek theme). Unfortunately we weren't prepared, and it turned
out to be a flop; besides, there were only two of us to cover four parts
(Uhura was in that version)(See Star
Trek V (1993)). So we decided to do it again. We made
scripts, had props, had locations picked out, made out a bunch of idea
sheets, but somehow the idea just faded away. Then, in late July
1998, almost five years later, Jackson was cleaning out his closet, and
found one of the Star Trek V scripts. He gave it to Kurt, Kurt showed
it to Jon, and with that, a film was inevitable. It was perfect timing.
Just in time for there to be enough people to cover all three parts.
Fun Facts
-
The filming of this archive was frequently interrupted by a persistent
bullfrog that kept on croaking in the millpond that was only feet away
from the "campsite."
-
It actually took Jon Davidenas 7 hours 36 minutes 28.59 seconds to memorize
the line: "Before leaving the ship, I consulted the computer library
to familiarize myself with the customs associated with camping out."
-
The beans we used were BLAND CITY!

Kraft Foods provided the marshmellon dispenser.
