"History of The Amihan Club"

Amihan is a gentle northwest wind that can come after a storm, bringing forth a refreshing and exhilarating feeling as it drifts over the verdant hills and caresses the black tresses of a Filipino maiden by the Visayan shore.
One stormy night on January 10, 1975, a group of Visayans, defying the elements, gathered at the Rizal Memorial Center in Chicago for a meeting. As the meeting progressed, the electric lights in the building went out. It was pitch dark but it did not matter as everyone was in high spirits. There was not one word of complaint, resentment, nor fear.  Everyone was determined to pursue the purpose of the gathering - to unite in brotherhood. For a short while, the meeting went on in total darkness and only the sound of unwavering voices carried it through. Shortly after, a candle was lighted to illuminate the room.
Amihan Club of America was born. There was such a great feeling of glory and delight having gained success even by candlelight. Its first set of officers were elected. Other matters, such as the constitution and the upcoming plans and programs were discussed. The elected officers were: Dr. Eufemio Beltran - President, Dr. Romeo Colina - Vice President, Mrs. Natalie Pepa - Secretary, Mrs. Erlinda Guevara - Treasurer, Mr. Lope Lindio - Auditor, and for the Board of Governors - Dr. Jose Abella, Mr. Mac Arthur Antigua, Dr. Nicanor Baguio, Dr. Jose Guevara, Dr. Augustus Lariosa, De. Teofilo Nayan, Dr. Leo Pepa, Mr. Benigno Ponce, Dr. Gregoria Yanong, and Mr. Guillermo Ong.
Amihan Club of America, born amidst the calamity of the storm, has emerged as the symbol of freshness like the gentle breeze after the storm. The aims and objectives of the club are noble and are concerned not only with the well-being of its members, but with their fellowmen far and near. The club aims to foster closer ties among its members, and endeavors to promote civic consciousness as it aspires to make it valuable to the community. Through its members, the club contributes to the economic prosperity of the community by way of their efficient services and their efforts to excel in their respective fields of endeavor.
