While Lord Ganesh was Warding, his Father Lord Siva came to enter the Cave. Lord Ganesh prevented him and said that he will not allow any one to go inside and his mother has instructed him to do so. Lord Shiva was suprised on Lord Ganesh words and explained to him that he is his father, but Lord Ganesh who is firm on his duty never yielded, so Lord siva returned back to Kailash.
Then Lord Shiva has send Nandhi to persuvade Lord Ganesh, but Lord Ganesh was firm in his action and said that he will not allow any one unless his Mother say so. Nandhi came back to Lord Siva with negative reply, so Lord Siva got angry and has cut Lord Ganesh's head.
Later Goddess Requested Lord Shiva to give back his son Head. Lord Siva told Goddess that you can fit Head of Living being which is sleeping by keeping their head towards North. So Goddess went for searching the living being keeping his head pointed towards North.
While searching Goddess found an elphant sleeping keeping head pointed towards North direction. Goddes transfered the head of that elephant to Lord Ganesh.
