| The 10th House |
|
 |
The 10th house is the highest point in the chart and cusp of the 10th
house is called the Midheaven or MC. Through this house we find the type
public attention that we may garner, rewards or reputation we receive from
the work we put forth, how we meet and overcome hurdles to success. It
illustrates , through the sign on the cusp and planets in the house, one's
ambition, contribution to society, parent(s), career, profession, and fame.
It is the house that rules authority figures and the government. |
|
|
| We move through life learning and gaining knowledge, then
utilizing it to further our ambitions and goals. Much of the learning process
is gained through interaction with people. How we interact with people in
different spheres gives them an impression of our character and worth, and
is summed up in our reputation or status. The sign on the cusp and planets
in the house can describe how we are viewed. Virgo may be seen as practical
and analytical or critical and inhibited. Cancer may indicate mothering,
patriotic, selfish or touchy views. Sagittarius can be seen as generous,
argumentative, scholarly or straightforward. The Sun can show leadership,
egotist, or dignity. Venus may appear as sentimental and appreciative or
superficial and money- loving. |
|
|
| The Tenth House is the last of the 'work' houses and describes
partly what we seek in a career (the 2nd and 6th houses also do this). The
planets or signs can even describe the type of work with which an individual
is involved. Pluto in the 10th may show the person to be an investigator
or detective, Jupiter can symbolize being a philosopher or publisher. Saturn
could be a judge, a general, or a mountain climber. Gemini can suggest a
reporter, postal worker or wheeler-dealer. |
|
|
| Ambition is generally perceived as being toward career although
that is not the only area where we have aspirations. So the 10th house also
includes the roadblocks we encounter as well as the rewards we may receive
along the way to meeting our goals. Virgo can indicate procrastination hinders
achievements, Capricorn or Saturn may show stubbornness as the hurdle, while
Taurus' self-indulgence my be the culprit to deal with in reaching goals.
How we deal with roadblocks or gain rewards is shown through aspects between
planets in the house and/or the house ruler. |

|
| Because this is the opposite house of the 4th house, it
symbolizes one of the parents. There are different notions as to which parent
gets the symbolism. Some say the father is the 10th house parent because
they are the ones who go out in the world to provide for the family. However
this concept has changed over the years since many mothers are now working
parents. Others feel that the 10th house symbolizes the mother if the chart
is for a male while it symbolizes the father if the chart is for a female.
The house can actually describe both parents as well. It should be left up
to the chart holder to determine which parent the house most symbolizes for
them. Aquarius on the 10th can show a parent who was aloof but humanitarian
or always involved with groups. Pisces can indicate the parent was sympathetic
or lazy. Aries may indicate one who is always on the go while Cancer shows
a homebody. Jupiter can reveal a generous parent while Saturn provides a
perception of one who is strict. Mercury indicates a thinker while Neptune
can show a parent who is very religious. Whatever the case the sign, planets
and aspects of those planets indicate how the parent is perceived. |
