2nd House |
|
 |
We move from the 1st house of the 'self' to the 2nd house of
'possessions'. This is the realm where we start forging our value system.
The way one goes about this or how one feels about their value system is
seen through the sign that is on the 2nd house cusp. Aries may be aggressive;
Gemini superficial, Leo proud and Scorpio penetrating. One of the first things
we learn value about is ourself, the individual. As a baby you soon learn
that you have your own set of ears, hands and feet! If you ever watch
a child who has discovered their tiny toes or ears, you will notice that
they are |
| fascinated with playing with them. The child is learning
through touch that these belong to him/her. They begin to value these little
parts as they register the types of sensations that occur when they are touched,
tickled, kissed, grabbed or pulled. |
|
|
| Through this early sense of knowing oneself, the experiences
and feelings that bring fulfillment are then added to the value system. A
baby may find that they enjoy affectionate kissing of their ears as it makes
them feel warm and loved; while pulling on them doesn't feel so good and
they want no part of it. As the person experiences different types of situations,
they filter the experiences into what they like and don't like, and determine
the type of value it has for them on a physical and/or psychological level
This is a continuing process throughout one's life. New and different types
of circumstances may change old values or re-enforce them but the value system
is always being accessed in some manner. |
|
|
| Values eventually extend out to material things from which
the person derives gratification. These values are material possessions.
A baby who cannot sleep without their teddy bear or refuses to go anywhere
without their blanket are examples of early material possessions and the
fulfillment that it brings to them. The types of material possessions that
one gets fulfillment from is seen through a) the sign on the 2nd house cusp,
b) any planets in the 2nd house, and c) the placement of the 2nd house planetary
ruler. Libra here may find art objects provide them pleasure, Virgo may get
their enjoyment from health books, Pisces may find pleasure in listening
to music so collects sheet music or albums. Saturn here may get pleasure
from cutting/saving coupons because it saves them money; while Mars may seek
their fulfillment in collecting sports trading cards. |
|
|
| Now in order to obtain material possession, a person usually
needs money to buy them. The 2nd House also rules money and your financial
picture. How money is handled and earned is seen by the sign on the 2nd house
cusp and the planets in the 2nd house. Taurus may love to spend money on
nice furnishings, Leo may use money to invest in stocks or to gamble, Sagittarius
may spend money on educational things, while Aries may spend money faster
than they can make it. Jupiter here can indicates lots of money or living
above your means. The Moon in the 2nd house may show the financial picture
is always fluctuating. Uranus can indicate sudden changes in financial conditions
or earning money through unique means. |
|
|
| Along with the value system and money picture, the 2nd
house also shows the type of innate talents and skills that we possess and
should develop. Again the skills and talents are seen by the sign on the
cusp and any planets in the 2nd house. Libra on the cusp may indicate
a talent for diplomacy; Virgo a skill for analysis; Scorpio for
research, and Capricorn for planning. Where those skills
and talents are utilized can be seen in the house the planetary 2nd house
ruler resides and the houses ruled by the planets in the 2nd house. How well
we use those talents are seen by the aspects those planets make to other
planets in the chart. |
