The Third House |
|
|
|
 |
The 3rd house represents our immediate environment, our left brain
mind, communications and siblings. It is via this house were we start to
grow in experience and knowledge through exploration of our surroundings,
study, and interaction with those within the family or neighborhood.

|
As a baby you move from identifying yourself as an individual
to learning how to walk and talk. The immediate environment starts out going
from one chair to the next as you gain stability and skill with your legs.
That environment begins to expand to rooms within the house and then outdoors
in the yard around the house. As you grow older the immediate environment
becomes your neighborhood were you play and shop. How you perceive your
environment is seen through the sign on the 3rd house cusp as well as any
planets in the 3rd house. Aquarius may see their environment as strange or
unique. Cancer may find lots of security within their surroundings. Pluto
in this house may indicate an abusive or controlling environment while Mars
may suggest lots of activity. |

|
|
|
|
Part of the expansion of your environment is how you get
to one place or another, simple called short trips. The 3rd house describes
the tone of those trips in addition to the types of experiences we may encounter
during them. Capricorn may indicate business travel while Aquarius could
imply traveling in groups or as a loner. Scorpio may see trips as a way of
transformation or be obsessed with traveling. Jupiter could indicate lots
of travel as in a door to door salesman; while the Moon indicates a restlessness
about going anywhere. |

As your environment expands while growing up, you begin
to interact with others. Those in your immediate environment are brothers,
sisters, other relatives and neighbors, as well as teachers and peers in
school. Again the sign on the cusp and any planets in the 3rd House will
show how you perceive these individuals or the type of interaction you have
with them. Taurus may show a loving stable relationship or someone who is
materialistic. Libra may indicate an artistic person or diplomatic interaction.
Pisces here may see another individual as spiritual or pessimistic. Mercury
may indicate younger people or talkative ones. The Sun here may show a male
authority or a father figure or even suggest someone who is entertaining
and loves kids. |

|
Along with expanding our immediate environment, we expand
our knowledge through learning, studying, and communicating. As we begin
to learn to talk, we also begin to associate words with objects. From there
we construct sentences to communicate our thoughts and needs. Part of the
3rd House is how we communicate and learn as well as how we analyze the
information we get from others. The sign on the cusp and planets within the
house indicate the type of mental method the person invokes as well as the
attitude toward learning. Aries may be quick at learning while Taurus a plodder.
Virgo may analyze everything or seek perfection through words. Sagitarrius
may see communicating as a form of friendship or communicate in a philosophical
style. Jupiter may be over talkative while Saturn restrained. |

More details can be found to describe communications,
short trips, siblings etc. by looking at the house ruler and where that planet
resides in the chart, in addition to looking at aspects between the ruler
and other planets, or planets within the house to other planets in the
chart. |
