The 7th House

The 7th House is the beginning of the social houses of the chart. Through the social houses we interact with others and the signs, planets and aspects show our approach to those areas. The 7th house is best known for representing partnerships and committed relationships. These relationships include business partners, marriage partners, long-term live-in partners, and best friends
The sign and planets in this house often indicate the type of person to which we are attracted as well as the conditions surrounding the relationship. Gemini on the 7th cusp may indicate an attraction to someone friendly and versatile but that the relationship could be superficial or based on friendship. Mars here may indicate an attraction to a person who is active and ardent or one that will make decisions for us. Uranus can indicate more than one partner or someone who embodies a humanitarian and unique outlook. Leo on the cusp suggests someone who may act like a child or someone we want to flaunt to others.
Because this house is opposite the 1st house (our outer personality), the sign on the cusp of the 7th will be the opposite sign of the 1st house. The first house zodiac sign is a collection of the traits we embody, so it is reasonable to surmise that the 7th house traits are ones we reject or fail to see in ourselves but are needed in order to balance out our personality. If we find someone we really enjoy then it feels as though our own self is complete because the other person encompasses the traits we lack. When we meet a person who we dislike, those traits may be ones we do not like in ourselves. After determining that we dislike someone we usually consider them an 'enemy' to our nature. So it is the reason the 7th house also represents open enemies. Scorpio on the cusp may indicate the we do not see ourselves as controlling or vindictive yet may end up with a partner who is exactly that. Pisces may indicate our lack of empathy for others while Capricorn shows our lack of discipline.
As we begin dealing with others squabbles are a natural occurrence and the result is to seek a judicial process to end the conflict. The 7th house represents this judicial process through lower court systems or through an arbitrator. It is one-on-one dealings either through counseling or an attorney. In contrast, the 7th also represents the general public. Planets and signs in the house may indicate how we display those traits to the public. Jupiter could be a judge on the lower court system. Mercury could indicate lecturing. Aries may indicate the ability to energize the public while Neptune might be of service through a medical organization or counseling.
In any case, the 7th house begins our journey into interacting with others and how those interactions are reflected in planetary aspects to other houses in the chart.
