The 8th House

The Eighth House is known generally as the house of death, sex and taxes although it includes other things such as surgery, illnesses, insurance matters, research, investigations and regeneration. It is opposite the 2nd house of money so this house is others' money or your partner's finances. Along with others' money it encompasses the values system of others as well as the support we may receive whether it be material, physical, spiritual or moral.
Through the lenses of the sign and planets in this house we can determine the manner in which we deal with transitions or how they may occur in our life. Each transition involves having a beginning and an ending or simply 'a death'. Although physical death is a part of this house, deaths can also be on a psychological or material or emotional level. Cancer on the cusp my indicate transitions are dealt with on an emotional level or that it is hard to let go. A physical death could be by water or drowning. Aquarius here may deal with transitions in a bizarre way or through analysis. Uranus may indicate that transitions are sudden. Virgo may record their experiences of each transition while Venus finds transitions harmonious.
Aside from death being a physical transition, sex is also one. We merge with another on a physical level through sex with the partner. The 8th house can show how we react to sexual experiences. Capricorn may be frigid or earthy. Taurus may be loving or enjoys using foods to enhance their experience. Gemini or Mercury can show one who likes to talk during love making while Aquarius like to experiment with different techniques. Virgo can be critical or provide the great service in this area. Neptune may need a romantic setting to enjoy sexual encounters or use them to escape reality. Pluto may use seduction or control while Jupiter may go overboard in this area.
The 8th house , when tied to planets in the career houses, can show a profession in the medical field, banking and finance careers, politics, insurance industry or with the IRS to name a few. Mars in the 8th may indicate a surgeon, Mercury may indicate a salesman or accountant, while the Sun could be a politician. Pluto may indicate a mortician or criminal while Neptune indicates a nurse or a psychic.
The support we receive from others or our partner is shown in this house too. That support can be in the moral sense such as voters for a candidate, or in the material sense as in money from your partner. Inheritances and insurance matters are related to death and are covered by the 8th house. Since the 2nd house deals with how we handle money we earn, the 8th house deals with how we handle the money our partner earns. Pluto or Scorpio may indicate you try to control it. Saturn may indicate that your partner's earnings leave you insecure. Venus or Jupiter may indicate you overspend or that you get great benefits from those earnings.
As always the planets in the house, the ruler of the house sign, and the aspects that these planets make will shed more light on how easy or tough it will be and in what other areas of life will be involved.
