Only five years after humming that untitled tune, Maxwell decided to start working the New York City club scene. He was most well-received at Nell's, a club that showcased new talent. With the help of a few friends, a Casio piano, and a 24-track recording studio, Maxwell was able to make demo tapes. One of those tapes went to a lady friend who fell in love with what she heard and sent it to a friend...at a record company. Soon, Maxwell signed a deal with Sony�/Columbia Records�.
