Most of us know that the IT industry is constantly facing changes. When something great comes out, there appears to be something better on the horizon. Currently, category 5e seems to offer the most bandwidth as far as copper cabling is concerned. However, standards are also being worked on for categories 6 and 7. Category 5 transmission performance is rated at 100Mhz. Category 6 cabling will extend transmission performance to 200 MHz, while Category 7 cabling is targeting 600 MHz. Fiber optic cable will continue to offer the most bandwidth. Multimode fiber has been been proposed to support 10-Gigabit Ethernet. |
