33021 (D6539) "EASTLEIGH" HISTORICAL NOTES.

33021 was built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company in January 1961 and started its working life numbered as D6539 in BR green with light grey roof and off white window surrounds with a 3 inch wide off white stripe along the middle of the body sides which extended round the cab fronts.

1964 yellow warning panels were added to the BR green livery.

1968 D6539 repainted in allover BR blue with full yellow ends.

1972 D6539 was renumbered to the TOPS scheme receiving number 33021

1980 (FEB 16) 33021 worked passenger service from Waterloo to Exeter St.Davids then worked 15:55 passenger service from Exeter St Davids to Waterloo.

1982 (SEP 18) 33021 worked 04:33 passenger service from Eastleigh to Portsmouth.

1987 (NOV 27) 33021 worked passenger service from Brighton to Havant. (Gen from Alex Hall)

1987 (DEC 0) 33021 worked passenger service from Portsmouth Harbour to Cosham. (Gen from Alex Hall)

1988 33021 carried Railfreight distribution triple grey livery with sub sector decals (blue & yellow squares on the body sides) For channel tunnel trainload construction workings.

1988 (APR 4) 33021 worked passenger service from Romsey to Portsmouth Harbour.

1989 (MAY 21) 33021 + 33022 worked the 11:10 passenger service from Leicester to London St.Pancras as part of the "Inter City Diesel Day" attractions.

1989 (MAY 21) 33021 + 33022 worked passenger service from London St Pancras to Leicester as part of the "Inter City Diesel Day" attractions.

1991 (NOV 6) 33021 + 33063 worked from Waterloo to Salisbury on a "test run" before BRCW Type 3 trailtour on 16th NOV.

1991 (NOV 16) 33021 + 33063 worked the BRCW Type 3 Railtour from Eastleigh to Immingham to mark the end of Trainload Construction's association with the cromptons.

1994 33021 carried mainline freight triple grey without subsector decals.

1995 33021 Livery was changed to blue, black & yellow with rolling wheel logo.

1996 (SEP) 33021 was withdrawn and stored by EWS.

1997 33021 Now owned by Alan & Tracy Lear, restored to working order at Eastleigh depot, repainted into allover Red livery with cast B.R. logo on cabsides and cast depot plaques. Red livery similar to parcels red livery of 1990's but without dark grey upper bodysides. Livery chosen by Alan & Tracy Lear due to their association with Royal Mail.

1997 (SEP 19th) 33021 left Eastleigh by road.

1997 (SEP 24th) 33021 joined Fragonset fleet at Birmingham Railway Museum for use on mainline railtours.

1997 (NOV) 33021 fitted with EASTLEIGH nameplates in recognition of the Depot's restoration work.

2000 (AUG 6) 33021 was on display at Old Oak Common in its Red livery.

2001 (APR 7) 33021 worked Pathfinder Tours "Marshes Marauder" charter train from Crewe to Dungeness, 33021 was joined by 73131 and 73133 (both 73s in EWS livery) at Ashford for the run to Dungeness.

2002 (MAY 18) 33021 and 33108 newly named VAMPIRE worked the 33111 Preservation Group railtour from Crewe to Glasgow Central via Stranraer. Both locomotives now carry Fragonset allover black livery with red stripe and full width yellow warning panel from below the cab windows. (as seen in above photos taken in May 2003)

2002 (JULY) 33021 on hire to South West Trains for crew training, Empty Coaching Stock (ECS) workings and Thunderbird rescue duties.

2002 (SEP) 33021 worked engineers trains from Woking to Surbiton.

2002 (NOV) 33021 on hire to South West Trains for driver training, ECS workings, Thunderbird rescue duties and used to move new Desiro 450xxx sets to/from Bournemouth depot for testing between Wareham - Weymouth.

2003 33021 used to move new Desiro 450xxx sets to/from Bournemouth depot for testing between Wareham - Weymouth and to Woking for high speed Desiro testing.

2003 (MAR 22-29) 33021 at Woking as standby locomotive.

2003 (APR-JUN) 33021 working Desiro units to/from test sites at Woking & Wareham.

2003 (JUN 21) 33021 + 33108 moved Desiro unit 450008 from Woking to Strawberry Hill Depot.
