The Community Services Committee, chaired by the late Bro. Tom Lara, prepared a program of activities to assist the less fortunate, through community action, which included the following:
a)
Ten Medical missions were conducted in various locations throughout La
Union and Ilocos Sur, treating
2985 patients
b)
Operation �Sagip Mata�, eye screening and treatment was undertaken at
3 locations, treating 247
patients.
c) Free cataract operations performed for 7 blind patients.
d) Comeal transplant operation, successfully undertaken on a nine-year-old girl.
e) Sight saving month, participated in the activities.
f) Launching of Operation �Denge-Tepok�, in two locations within La Union.
g) Operation�Tuli�, ten circumcision operations were undertaken.
h) Operation �Deworming�, 411 patients were treated in 6 locations.
i) Murang Paninda para sa Mass, was successfully operated in two locations of La Union.
j)
�Adopt a Patient program�, as part of the Masonic charities for
crippled children, two children were
treated by surgery.
k) �Christmas gift giving�, 186 people received gifts to celebrate the spirit of Christmas.
a) Participated in the San Fernando parade on 2/9/99.
b)
Joined with the brethren of the A&ASR in observance of �Holy
Thursday�, �Feast of the Pascal Lamb�,
on 4/1/99.
c) Organized medical equipment for the less fortunate through the program�Botica para sa Mason�.
d)
Attended the 3rd Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge, held
at General Santos City from the 22nd
to the 24th April 1999.
e) Free Diabetes screening for the brethren and their dependants, 255 patients treated.
f)
Joined the Independence Day Celebrations with the Provincial Government,
where the guest speaker
was WB Gen. E Cuadra, followed by a wreath laying ceremony.
g)
Participated in the Rizal Day Celebrations with the City of San Fernando
Council, included a wreath
laying ceremony, and a speech given by the DDGM VW Bro Oscar
Rodriguez, who spoke on the life of
Bro. Dr. Jose Rizal.
h)
Attended the 1st anniversary of the National Voluntary Blood
Services program. Union Lodge was
awarded a certificate of Appreciation from the Provincial
Government.
i) Lead by the WM. The brethren attended the 13th Annual Tri District Convention in Vigan.
j)
Further wreath laying ceremony at the monument of Bro. Dr. Jose Rizal, to
commemorate the 103rd
anniversary of his death.
Chaired by Bro D. Lee arranged for the De Molay�s to assist at the various functions and medical missions. Undertook a tree-planting program at Bacsayan, San Juan, La Union. The committee sponsored a student to attend DMMMSU to study for a BSIE.
