Windsong Lavender farm is situated in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales
commenced operations in November 1997 with not one lavender plant in the ground
The first year we planted 24 different varities as a trial to see which would grow the best and we found that we could grow the lot. 1st year plantings in November to January we planted about 3,000 bushes in the trail plot and took our first harvest off the bushes that same year.

The Lavender farm now has over 10,000 bushes in the ground at various stages of development with the plan over over 20,000 producing plants by the end of 2000 on our 1 hactre site.

We propagate all our own plants and plant them out into rows that have been formed by the row former that we designed and had made to our specifications (see picture)

Our original plan was to be a nursery but from the information we learnt we found that on the small area we had available we could get a commercial lavender crop so we went for it! People ask us what varieties are the best?  BEST for what is we ask?

We planted out 24 different varieties and they all grew but for commercial use only about 6-8 are suitable for what we aim to do, dried stripped lavender.
