INTRODUCTION

Performing music allows one to invite others into a very deep and spiritual realm; the essence of the music as expressed through the prism of the performer's soul creates what can be an intensely personal experience. Through my own performances as a pianist I have been grateful for those very rare moments of feeling connected to my listeners on a very deep level.

I have also felt the urge to connect and communicate through writing. The troubling political and social scenario in the United States calls for voices of dissent and reason. I have been inspired by many progressive thinkers and writers to add my own voice in this regard. I have also enjoyed reflecting on various life situations such as love and fatherhood, music, humor...whatever speaks to me in a particular way. These offerings represent for me a more direct mode of expression; the music of words and language.

In The Morning (2003 - PDF Music File)

        IN THE MORNING is a piece for three-part choir with piano accompaniment. This piece was sung at my ordination ceremony in June of 2003, by the choir of The New Seminary in New York City. The text is based on a passage from Psalm 30:5. "Sorrow may last through the night, but there is joy in the morning."
