The October Group Is a non - profit, self funding, research group. Originally founded by a small group of Treasure Hunters to study lost treasures. Its purpose was to act as a think tank attempting to uncover the secrets behind such mysteries as the Beale Ciphers and attempting to discover the locations of lost shipwrecks and hoards. Our Primary Aim was Financial gain. |

Times Change (And so do People). As time went by the Groups dynamic gradually Changed (Partly due to increased restrictions on Treasure Hunting World Wide), many group members soon found that they shared interests besides Treasure Hunting and the relentless pursuit of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Other topics began to be discussed with great enthusiasm. The group soon ceased to be just a group of Treasure Hunters, we had bigger fish to fry, and other contributions to make. Several members went on to work in Archaeology, completely shunning their previous activities. Another went on to work in both Archaeology and the Museum service, making several interesting discoveries, among the Most notable of which were coins from a large hoard of Iron age Gold. A Coroners inquiry was held in accordance with British Treasure Laws, and the Coins were declared Treasure they were therefore, the property of the Crown. The Finder rejected offers of financial compensation. This was a major turning point for the group, it proved that we had left our roots behind and had ascended to a higher plane, Financial gain had ceased to be our primary motivation. |

The Group Today Today we continue to search for hidden things, once you have been bitten by the bug, it becomes an obsession that will last your lifetime. However, our Methods, Motivations and the very nature of the things we seek, have changed beyond all recognition. |
