Let me put it this way, not many people will like to talk about education coz reading and doing all those sums are both boring and difficult.
On the other hand, without proper education, where would I be now, especially in this competitive society? One more piece of qualification hanging on your office wall can mean the difference between a pencil pusher's job and a CEO.
And I want to express my deepest gratitude to my parents who has given me the opportunity to be where I am now...
Thank you Mum and Dad !!!
Personally, I love to read, eventhough I am not a super bright kid and I am not eligible to join MENSA either... ~:) I don't like numbers and figures but I'm also not too sure how I ended up to be an accountant, and a CPA at that too...???
During my lower secondary school days, I was in the commerce stream and subsequently in science stream during the latter part of my secondary school days. Oh by the way, the secondary school I went to was back in my hometown. Sure brought back many fond memories...
Kinda liked science but since my maths is not that fantastic, being a doctor, an engineer and related job is out of the question for me.
After the completion of my secondary school, I did a one-year pre-University course and with that certificate, Victorian Certificate of Education (Australia), I managed to get a place at the University of Tasmania under the then subsidised scheme.
You must be wondering why Tasmania and not any other place and I think some of you is still wondering where in the world is Tasmania. Don't worry, I'll talk about Tasmania in my next page.
Phew !!! Didn't know that University life is so tough and most of my graduate relatives told me that once you get into Uni, life would be easy. I wonder whether they were tricked too...Hahahaha!!! Okay, that's what I will say to my nieces and nephews when it's their time for tertiary life...It's payback time... ~;p
Got my Bachelor of Commerce degree only from UniTas eventhough I wanted to do a double degree or at least a double major in Commerce and Computer Science. But the workload from year 2 onwards is so bad and almost all lectures and exams from the 2 courses clash. So gotta give up one course and you may as well know which one by now. Maybe I am a bit too ambitious then...
Being Asians, one particular trait or value that we "MUST" have is "FACE" (Whether it's good or bad). So much so that some of my fellow Asian students rather "DIE" than go home and face the humiliation or lose face if they could not get through University, even during the first year !!! Scary yah...!!! With such friends' around, who needs additional thrills and scares and the Grim Reaper ???
Anyway, I thought that studying will end after graduation but boy, was I wrong...
Since I am a CPA
, a member of
and a
member of
,
I need to do this thing called the continuing professional development or CPD.
Basically, it means that I am required to upgrade myself constantly by way of attending
seminars or workshops or even courses that is relevant to the accounting or internal
auditing profession.
In other words, I'll be "STUDYING" for the rest of my life...Now who else wants to be an accountant or auditor???
