MY TRAVELS

Frankly speaking, I didn't know that I love to travel so much until I went to the University in Tasmania.

As students, we always look forward to the mid-year break and also the end of year break.  This is the time when we take a "well deserved" rest from our studies and exams.  And for some of us, we will take this opportunity to travel around, either within Tasmania or to the Australian mainland.

I did managed to tour around Tasmania a fair bit, either on my own or with fellow students.  Been as for south as HASTINGS CAVE, Bicheno and Swansea on the EAST COAST, LAUNCESTON up north, STANLEY on the north west of Tasmania, and Cradle Mountain and MOUNT FIELD in the centre.  However, I have yet to visit the WEST COAST of Tasmania, Queenstown and the Gordon River cruise.

Anyway, I'll include them in my itinerary when I visit Tasmania in a couple of months time.

I can still remember one particular winter day in 1991 (or was it in 1990...Hmmm???)....where I was caught up on Mount Field skiing grounds together with another 120 or so souls due to the worst snow storm in 20 years.  All I had with me was for a day skiing trip, arriving in the morning and departing in the late afternoon.  We had to be split into groups of 10-20 persons depending on the size of the ski huts that were assigned to us for the night.

There were no sign or panic or chaos, just calmness and orderliness.  And as it was a full moon that night, the sight of the moonlight shining down on the pure white snow is simply awesome and breathtaking.

We were finally "evacuated" around noon the next day.  The first thing I did when I reached home was to soak in a warm water bath for a long long time... ~:)

TASMANIA is a laid back place with plenty of nature to see and experience.

During my undergraduate days, I have had the opportunity to visit other capital cities on the AUSTRALIAN mainland.  Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide are cities that I have been to and if you ask me, personally I like Gold Coast and Adelaide.  However HOBART is still no. 1. ~;p

During my travels, I'll normally stay in youth hostels (where available) under the YHA umbrella.  Main reasons being they are budget/cheap accommodation, strategic location of the hostels, can meet fellow backpackers and last but not least, can obtain discounts for admission/tour prices (provided you are a YHA member).

For the past couple of years, I have been travelling short trips around the region (mainly due to the Asian economic crisis and the subsequent belt tightening exercise).  BEACH RESORTS and ISLAND RESORTS in Malaysia are the places that I have been to and so far, Berjaya Redang resort on Redang Island on the east coast of peninsula Malaysia and CLUB MED Cherating are my favourite destinations.

These days, I'll try to make a couple of short trips and hopefully at least one long trip in a year.  When you start your working life, it just seems difficult to drop everything and go off...But don't let work be the barrier, leave everything behind and just do it...Sounds familiar right?

Take a well deserved break, bring your loved ones on a trip and forget everything...

Oh yes, before I forget, my Australian host family lives in NEW NORFOLK and they are the ones whom have been looking out for me during my days in Tasmania.

Thank you Celia, Brian, Nana Peggy and all at home !!!

My working life next...
